Sharjah’s First Solar Plant
Since it is the largest setup of solar installations in the emirate, the SANA Solar Plants would, therefore, play a strategic role in Sharjah’s energy infrastructure and clean energy transition initiatives. This big 60-megawatt ground-mount photovoltaic solar power plant, conceived to foster large-scale renewable energy in Sharjah, was commissioned in June 2025. The Solar Plant Inauguration ceremony would remain now an eternal landmark event in the history of Sharjah, witnessed by many dignitaries, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, who sees the project as very important for realizing a sustainable future for this region. Thus, the SANA Solar Project is not only a matter of engineering; it is a project of cooperation and an innovative expression of the green future that Sharjah envisions.
Powering Progress: 60 Megawatts of Clean Energy
Featuring an impressive capacity of 60 MW, SANA Solar Plant boasts over 98,000 solar panels under an area of 850,000 sq. m. The clean energy generated is sufficient to support 13,780 homes annually, thereby presenting a stark number to exhibit the scale of the project and its impact on the community. Sharjah Solar Plant has been laid with the primary intent of benefiting SNOC operations, while excess electricity will be exported to SEWA for better utilization.
The ability to supply power not only to SNOC but also to the grid by the SANA Solar Project is what makes it an integrated renewable-energy-model project. The plant’s power export is highly innovative in Sharjah, showing it as a leading center for sustainable energy management.
Environmental Impact and Sustainability Goals
Set against its environmental strategy for Sharjah, the plant is a place of grandeur. It reduces annual carbon dioxide emissions by 66,000 tons, which means that more than 14,600 cars are taken off-road annually-the numbers being quite persuasive for climate action.
The SANA Solar Plant Inauguration is in line with the national sustainability agenda of the UAE, which includes the aspiration to reach net-zero emissions by the year 2050. Sharjah Energy Council, overseeing the emirate’s energy and water planning, has stressed the role that such projects have to play in protecting the environment and in the security of resources for the long term. The SANA Solar Project is an actual implementation toward meeting these objectives, whereby more focus is given to renewable sources than to fossil fuels.
Technology and Infrastructure Behind SANA
Advanced solar technologies for utmost efficiency and reliability are fostered at the main arena of SANA Solar Plant. The place harbors about 13000-flexible poles, whose panels carry sun-tracking mechanisms that enable the panels to follow the sun from morning to evening-now that is dynamic. Having dynamic tracking allows these panels to harness the maximum energy despite changes in weather.
Investment and engineering behind the Sharjah Solar Plant can be understood from its scale, with over 98,000 solar panels spread over a huge area. Being sited adjacent to Sajaa Gas Plant allows for a seamless integration into the existing energy framework, thereby enhancing operational efficiency further and reduction of transmission loss.
Economic and Social Benefits for Sharjah
The SANA Solar Project provides Sharjah with a big chunk of economic and social benefits. The Sharjah Solar Plant achieves energy security by lowering dependence on imported fossil fuels, thereby providing cheap electricity for both industry and households. This project supports job creation and advances skills and know-how in renewable energy.
Besides the economic gains, the Solar Plant Inauguration brings in the positive social impacts with better air and a healthier population due to having less emission. The project by its visibility and success became a vision for other green projects that spread collaborations in the private and public domains for the furtherance of the Sharjah sustainability agenda.
